Due to the down Turn a Lot of Snowboarding Companies Will Be Cutting Their Number of Catered Chalets

Partly due to the credit crunch ski holiday sales decreased last ski season.

Notwithstanding strong early sales and great snow fall.

This reduction in skiers follows on from 7 years of successive development in the ski industry, and the numbers shrunk from 1 million two years ago to 950000 last winter.

This is partly due to snowboarders giving their annual skiing break a miss, whilst other skiers who’d commonly have two snowboarding breaks, only had the one.

Sales for the independent travel sector fell by 15% and a few no frills airlines cutting the amount of flights to some cities.

Tour operators also saw the bookings falling by 15%.

Nonetheless, the top tour operators market share stayed at just over 70% and the French Alps retained its position as the most visited destination with 37% of holidays.

This meant that many ski operators lowered the no. of catered chalets they operate this coming winter.

Catered chalets in particular are going to witness a reduction in clients as catered ski chalets cost the operator more in terms of chalet chefs and rental when it is empty.

It remains unlikely that we will see the type of special offers which were on the market last winter.

And costs are in all likelihood to augment, costs probably won’t increase considerably.
