HSE Launches ‘Be Part of the Solution’
In a move towards promoting awareness about health and safety at the workplace, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), is floating a new strategy titled ‘Be Part of the Solution’. This strategy will ensure a realistic approach towards workplace safety to allow risk management to serve as a catalyst for good business, and not as a liability.
According to the findings of latest HSE research, both employers and workers agree that investing in workplace safety reaps good dividends for an organization. According to corporate bosses, human resource is the single most important factor behind a company’s success, while more than 60% of employees feel their importance is undermined if they are denied health and safety benefits by the management.
Business leaders predict that companies will be forced to cut back on workplace safety expenses due to the recession. But executives must realize that helping workers recover from accidents and dealing with compensation claims usually costs a company more than the timely prevention of accidents.
Last year the number of workers killed or badly injured while on duty was more than 45 times higher than an estimate made by employees in a survey, which shows the ignorance about the state of health and safety.
