NTRP Rating Verbal Description and Comments

1.5 – 2.0 You could describe yourself as a beginner. You do know how to serve and return volleys but you haven’t improved any tennis game consistency. You hopefully have figured how to keep track of score. You basically enjoy the game of tennis and want to meet up with other people who have the same passion.

2.5 Requires on-tennis court tennis experience. Has obvious stroke failings but is familiar with original positions for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis tennis court coverage is weak. Can keep a little rally of slow pace with other tennis players of the same ability.

3.0 Somewhat consistent when hitting medium-paced strokes, but is not comfortable with all tennis strokes and misses execution when seeking for guiding control, depth or power. Most common doubles formation is one-up and one-back.
Admin Comments: Skilled skill level, About 20% of the players are in this skill level

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Tennis Skill rating.
Comments: Comp2 Level, This level appears when the program’s league is large enough and we have plenty returning tennis players. The inclusion of this skill level allows the league to fine tune the skill levels and the matches tend to be closer. Playoff qualifiers participate in the Competitive playoffs.

3.5 Has accomplished improved tennis stroke reliability with leading control on light shots, but still lacks depth and variety. Starting to display more competitive net play, has improved tennis court coverage.
Admin Comments: Competitive1 division, About 40% of the tennis players are in this skill level. The majority of non-trained adult tennis players are at this level.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.
Admin Comments: Advanced2 division, This division appears when the program’s league is big sufficient and we have enough returning players. The addition of this skill level allows the league to fine tune the levels and the matches tend to be closer.

4.0 Has sure tennis strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on average strokes, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach strokes and volleys with some success. Occasionally forces errors when serving.
Admin Comments: Advanced1 division, About 20% of the players are in this division. Rusty players should start off in the Competitive skill level first. Scores are closely monitored by the league for Purity of Competition Rules.

4.5 Masters the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has good footwork, can control depth of tennis shots and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult tennis shots.
